Have a friend whose keyboard locks up very infrequently - weeks, sometimes months go by without a problem.

The system is a Dell 2400, direct standard KB connection, generic drivers - OS is XP SP2.

The KB will disappear from My Computer and Device Manager.

Using System Restore or un plugging/plugging in, re booting, will solve the problem until next time.

Doesn't seem to be any relationship with installing new apps or MS updates.

This KB is used heavily - lots of text editing.

Not there in person to see what is running or what combination of keys being used when this happens.

My take is that there is problem with the KB physically, either with the embedded chips or mechanically. I've suggested a new KB.

    Any other suggestions?

    Regards - Charles

Seeing how it could take weeks to find out if the solution(s) work, starting with a new keyboad sounds like a good idea to me.
