    Hi,
    WinXP SP1a

    In ControlPanel/Regional and Language Options/Language/Details I have
    EN English (United States)
    Keyboard
    U.S.
    and

    ES Spanish (Costa Rica)
    Keyboard
    Spanish

My problem is that when I switch to the Spanish Keyboard, I get the ñ, ¿, etc. and the keyboard layout is in Spanish, BUT, when I hit the supposed "dead" key to the right of the "p ", instead of getting the dead key that will right accent the next vowel typed, I get `` --two backward accents and not what I used to get, months ago, the dead key that accents the next vowel typed. True, I know I can call up the Character Map and drag and drop or hold Alt and type in a number, but when typing in Spanish, that is a real drag. I have the proper .dll for the keyboard and it is "installed" but I just can't get the accent to work. I also noticed that when I send a note in Spanish to someone, it shows up on their OE screen as ? marks where ever there is supposed to be a Spanish letter or mark. Any ideas or solutions? Thanks.

    Ali

    System File Check

    Start > Run > cmd
    sfc /scannow (note the space)
    have your XP cd ready.

A thought completely unrelated to your question: Have you considered doing the SP2 update?
