Win XP on a Dell Laptop C400. The laptop boots up with the 'external' num lock working as it should. When in the OS the num lock will not work.

The keyboard originally was a PS2 laptop, then changed to a USB. Still no go.

The docking station also has been replaced with a new replacedment from Dell.

The situation also occurs out of the docking station.

The system has been shut down and rebooted quite a few times. No changes.

The system is in a remote site, so actual hands on troubleshooting is not an option at the moment.

    Any suggestions?

    Hi,

Two places I could think of:

See if there is a setting for Num Lock in the BIOS settings.

One of Windows "accessibility" settings changes the Num pad to a keyboard "mouse ". Have a look in Help and Support ...Num, accessibility, etc.

You have probably already checked. Does the keyboard need to be changed to a 101-102 type (keyboard in Control Panel or Device Manager).

    Update:

Nothing as of yet has seemed to work.

I have tried to reset the registry to reflect that the numlock is always on with the registry edit.

I have applied the registry vbs.

I have also had the BIOS updated from A04 to A12.

All the above has been performed seperately with the system being rebooted after each procedure all with the same result.
