When I press certain letters on my keyboard, they act as shortcut keys & windows programs pop up. I type by copying & pasting letters from old word documents.

This is what this message would look like w/o copying & pasting:

Read about shortcut keys in Start -> Help. MS Word has a set of it's own shortcut keys which you should find under Help in that program. Both tend to use a combination of two keys pressed at the same time so it seems strange that you should be getting shortcuts using one key. Maybe it relates to the keyboard settings or the regional settings (see Control Panel -> Keyboard or Regional Settings).

The keyboard may be running on the wrong drivers so check in Add/Remove Programs for keyboard software and remove it and I think you should boot into Safe Mode and remove any keyboards listed in Device Manager. The drivers will be automatically reinstalled when you reboot.

After that it is a matter of trying another keyboard (although if it is a USB keyboard it may be due to a USB driver problem. Connect it directly to the computer, not a hub or look for updated USB controller drivers at the motherboard manufacturer's website)
