Occasionally I hit a key or key combo on the internet in a window or form and suddenly I'm in overtype mode. I haven't hit any of te upper f keys. I don't see anything lower on the keyboard that might do this.

We have an unexplained problem where I work, where chunks of typing get selected/highlighted for no apparent reason (Win XP SP2). I have not worked on it myself, but was told a workaround is to press each of the Shift keys, the Ctrl keys and the Alt keys.

    Don't ask me why :D

    interesting

That's interesting but not surprising. Do you press each one individually? It seems like it is something similar that caused the issue while I typed (too fast).

Tap a few times individually, but you can try both sets together.

    found something

I read that if the overtype button is on in Word you press it twice, even though it looks like part of the decoration and not a button. If that doesn't work you press the insert key twice. Now who the hell would guess that? And we thought Microsoft was in charge of cyberspace.

I could think of a few terms, but "in charge of" is not one of them :D

Mmmm, now that you mention it, I think I have come across an "overtype" setting somewhere. Thanks.
