    Hello,

I'm wondering if I need both of the firewalls running simultaneously to protect myself better.
Kerio WinRoute Pro makes me being hidden due to NAT but after I installed ZoneAlarm I still can see a great number of access attempts into my PC. I also have NAT security options in WinRoute Pro turned on.

Could you give me a piece of advice on this, please?

    Ralf

    One firewall should do it.

Unless you are having problems, looking at those activity logs will just make you a little nuts for no good reason.

Probably just ports being scanned to se if they exist or are opened. Quite different than access attempts. The scanner is prob scannong hundtreds of machines at a time, looking for the easy victims. Don't worry about it, the NAT is working.

    Hello,

thanks to all of you for your inputs, but I fear I forgot to mention something important.
It is my PC that is sharing the internet connection to a PC next door, so my PC works as router with WinRoute Pro installed. On the RAS interface I checked the check box "Peform NAT with the IP address of this interface on all communication passing through ". The other available check box "Exclude this computer from NAT" is UNchecked. On the interface with Ethernet there are none of those check boxes checked.
What I think now is that only the machine next door is being behind NAT while my PC is not. Am I right? In the light of that installing ZoneAlarm on my PC would probably be advisable.

    Hi,

please, try to respond to me, because it's quite important ...

When my PC has the RAS internet connection and I have Kerio WinRoute Pro installed, then is only the client computer protected or am I protected, as well?

Are you looking for protection from internet attacks, from other PCs at your location, or both?

Also, what OS are you running and what OS are the others running?

Newt, I'm looking for protection from internet only. The client PC is trusted and situated in the room next door and behind NAT. What is unclear to me is whether my PC is also behind NAT when I'm running WinRoute Pro. I'm unwilling to use any additional firewall, because (although manually configured and allowing communication from the client pc) the local PC occassionaly hasn't internet connection until I have restarted my machine - annoying.

The both machines are running WinXP Pro with SP1a.
