I want to keep Gtalk in the foreground of my Win7 screen; I can achieve that in any one session, by using ALWAYS_ON_TOP (or Window_on_top), but I would like it to be the DEFAULT state, so I don't have to BRING Gtalk to the foreground after every reboot. Is there a way of doing that ?

No responses except your apparently-critical one.

Note: you may have noticed on the AlwaysOnTop home page that this program works on Windows 95/NT. I can confirm it works perfectly well in XP. Not so sure about Vista (please comment if you try it out on Vista).

I posted the above since you are using Win 7. It came from "always on top ".Can't you just shrink your window and leave this one on the side. I use google talk everyday and just leave it open. When somebody calls me, I answer and we talk and I go about what I was doing. Surfing the net, e-mailing, playing games etc. Doesn't interfer with any of them.

"Can't you just shrink your window" I CAN do what you suggest - it is of minor importance to ME - but it would be a boon for the people I help remotely - they need my help so are less PC-savvy than I am. I can also confirm that BOTH the 'on-top' programs work with Win7 Ultimate. My wish for a DEFAULT setting has NOT decreased.

I might misunderstand exactly what you're trying to do but I'll take a shot at it in case my thoughts are correct. Click start -> all programs -> right click on the startup folder then click on open. Next thing is to paste a shortcut to Gtalk in the folder and it will open to Gtalk every time you start the computer. Hope this helps.

I already have Gtalk launch when Windows start-up. What I want is that : on the screen of the person I help remotely, GTalk stays in view no matter what happens [EXCEPT if it is deliberately minimised] and that this is the default state when Windows loads.

Yep. Most of us that spend our free time trying to help users frown on that practice. It means people will be spending their time offering the same suggestions as others.

You got quite a good answer by 7@lisa over @ theeldergeek (to which you haven't responded).

I did not respond because I had not been alerted. Thank you for drawing my attention to it. I have now responded to it - it requires a compromise I am not prepared to make.
"It means people will be spending their time offering the same suggestions as others." This is NOT the first time I have posted the same question in multiple forums, so I know what happens in PRACTICE rather than in THEORY. I agree with you about the POTENTIAL of time wasting through duplication, but that is NOT what eventuates. However, I have a much better chance of getting an answer quicker this way - especially a useful one. That you for volunteering your time - please not feel 'abused' because I do not abuse you. The 'right' answer is for the benefit of others, when I am the one that volunteers in offering remote help.

I've been asked to report on the state of my inquiry - I have followed two or three leads that are all blind alleys. They looked promising but seem to fail because I can't get the required permission to access the Temporary Internet Files folder. Oddly enough, I need NO special permission to clear out all but one cookie (for GOMPlayer). File Assassin (in Malwarebytes AntiMalware) might have the POWER to delete it, but I have not been able to provide permission for it to even look into TIF folder.

This seems to be the behavior of a little known security policy of Windows called "EnforceShellExtensionSecurity ". It is meant to enforce the use of Approved Shell Extensions, but I have discovered it has an alternative use against some types of mild malware.
It will keep other programs from using the Temp IE files while allowing IE full use of them. For example, you find a graphic file in the Temp IE folder, and double click it so you can then view it in your graphic file viewer the action gets halted, and you get a little message window telling you due to security this action has been halted. Most users will not be aware of this policy being in effect until this is tried.
It doesn't stop things from being deleted as a Shell Extension is not being used.
While you would need to add this policy to Win9x through XP for it to work, I believe it has been hard coded into Vista and Win7. I have not personally confirmed this.

Markp62 - interesting observation. Are you suggesting that I can DO something in Win7 to allow FileAssassin to delete the GOMPlayer cookie - or not.

For the rest of you who must be quite confused about the turn this thread has taken - I apologize profusely - I have in fact got my threads tangled, and my last comments do NOT relate to the original posting.

On the matter of my original post - keeping a program in the foreground - I am still very keen to find a solution - and I suspect it lies in tweaking the registry for GTalk (or any other relevant program); GTalk used to have a 'pin' that would keep it uppermost (according to NET posts) but I can not now find that pin. In any case that would only last until shutdown. What I want is for the program to be launched with that feature as a default. I imagine it must be possible to ADD a 'term' in the registry for GTalk (or any other program), but who would design such an insert for me ?

Can you give us an idea of how much you're willing to pay?

About the mistakenly intruded thread - how to delete the Gomplayer cookie -
It's a matter of Deleting Browsing History in Tools of I.E.9, making sure to UNtick "Preserve Favourites website data'.
As for the original unsolved thread, I suspect that what I would be willing to offer, would not satisfy someone who wants to do it for profit, rather than for the satisfaction of rising to the challenge.
