    Hi,

Is anyone of you know the best and working softwares that keeps you connected to the internet all the time?

Cause my ISP disconnect me if there is a 20 min idle time.

Is this from your ISP, or your modem settings? Check in IE, tools, options, connections, settings, advanced..

You can always configure your email program to check mail every "?" minutes. I used "Stay Alive" couple yrs ago.

Why would you want to stay online 24/7?

Oh, well. Go here and take your pick.

No, I wouldn't need to be online 24/7 but it is VERY annoying for my isp to disconnect me everytime when I just went out to get a cup of coffee!!!

But thanks anyway Mike for the link!

As AleeKat said, you can set your email client to check for new email every 10 minutes or so.
This will accomplish the desired "reset" of your ISP's "clock "
No need for any special software :D

If all of the above does NOT help,
exit to a DOS window and try this trick.
PING to any valid IP address (like yahoo, ibm etc...)
    enter this command:
    ping xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx -t
minimize (don't close) the DOS window
i.e. leave it to run in the background.
Your ISP will see a constant activity and will never close the connection.
It will NOT slow or do anything to your real work.

    abeoren,

That method works well. I used it when I had dial up but only ran it when needed. If you make a batch file it can be called up easily. Copy and paste the following script to Notepad and save it as C:\ImBusy.bat

    ping 205.181.112.65 -t

then go to it and right click > select properties and > PROGRAM TAB > and change the RUN field to RUN MINIMIZED and OK out of there. Then go to START > RUN and type ImBusy and click OK. The batch will run and can close it out. The next time you decide you need it, just click START > RUN and it'll be there in residence on the menu, makes for easy access.

I haven't used it for the past 4 yrs, got cable but I just tested it and it still works! I even forget what the IP is that I entered. I'll have to stick it in my address bar and see I guess.

Like you say, it doesn't seem to have any impact on the system but I just didn't want it running unless I was in charge.

Edit, I just checked the IP, it's ZDNet. They're still in business. ;)
