    While attempting to listen to a music file offered at Amazon.com I received the dreaded blue screen with this message:

    KEBUGCHECKEX; called by c002b28f
    ERROR CODE IS 44
    PARAMETERS: c1465199 0 0 0
    System halted.

    This was a first for me. The message offered no escape from the blue screen. No "click any key to return to windows ", etc.... I had to manually shut down and then restart. There was no problem restarting.

    Any suggestions? Thanks, Joe

    Did it happen just once?

    KeBugCheckEx is shorthand for
    "Kernel Bug Check Executable" or
    "Kernel Bug Check Exception" depending on who you talk to. It's basically a Microsoft "feature" that lets your machine crash in a controlled manner, so as not to destroy other files.

    You can't fix KeBugCheckEx, but you can snoop out and fix the underlyng problem, which often is a corrupt, or missing .dll file.

    Since it happen when you tried to listen to the music, I would start with updating your sound card driver.
    Running "scandisk ", and "sfc" won't hurt, either.
