    Hello cobraxus,

I'm assuming that your OS is either Win98 or WinMe, you should specify the OS when posting here.

This is legitimate behavior for this critical MS patch on a 9X system. KB918547.exe becomes a startup item in msconfig.

MS06-026: Vulnerability in the Graphics Rendering Engine could allow remote code execution
    APPLIES TO

    • Microsoft Windows 98 Second Edition
    • Microsoft Windows Millennium Edition

    Hi cobraxus,

Go to this thread http://www.windowsbbs.com/showthread.php?t=39425 and you'll see a reference on startups for 9X OS's. If you have mmtask.exe running, disable from starting up.

    Regards - Charles

EDIT: Looked into this some more.

There are two programs that are called by this name, one is a 3rd party music player - and other belongs to MS. Re reading your thread, its the MS media software thats causing the problem.

From what I can gather, this caused by driver issues.

I would recomend that you go to the video card and sound card web sites for your system and see if there are driver updates.
