This months MS updates include a security update for Flash Player /IE6.
My preference is to take MS options to install latest version of Flash Player 8.0 r24 as an alternative to installing MS security update (KB913433). The problem I run into is my IE6 security issues "Does not allow ActiveX controls installed on your computer ". Flash Player download site has "Trusted site status ". I have checked Internet options / Security Tab / Trusted Sites / Custom Level ... and all required "enable" values for downloads / and ActiveX controls are ticked. I have retoggled the settings, no go and reviewed them countless times, but the same issue continues. I do have Enough is Enough installed, have read all of their settings and allowances and everything is in agreement.
SOooo ... is anyone aware of a "non-ActiveX" exe file for Flash Player I could download and install locally. Looked on their site and can not find one .. but not sure if option is offered.

    Side Bar
Since the ActiveX not available is being issued from within IE6 information window, I feel the problem is not being caused by outside 3rd party programs.. ?? ... possible a stuck / bad registry entry.

Yesterday, I ran Windows Update on a Win98SE computer and was prompted to install KB913433 (if that was the number). It did not install but returned an error. I made two attempts. Next, I went to download and install the most recent version of Flash Player at Macromedia (Adobe). It was verified to install OK but Windows Update still prompted for KB913433.

I'm a bit suspicious about that update, not only because of the above but also because I don't understand why Microsoft make it their business to issue an update for a third party application.

Yesterday, I updated my own WinXP computer but was not prompted for KB913433. After posting in this thread, I checked which version of FP was installed. It was 8.0.22.0. It updated (at Adobe's site) to 8.0.24.0 without a problem.

The strange thing is that 8.0.22.0 is also said (at Adobe's site) to be vulnerable but Windows Update does not detect it and prompt for an update. I haven't had the time to read neither the MS bulletin nor the Adobe bulletin thoroughly but it seems to depend on the OS and version of FP.

Thanks for the info guys ..
But my real problem is getting around an Internet/IE6 install requiring ActiveX.
IE6/security keeps blocking download/install. I was hoping someone possible
knew of a .exe download / local install was available for FP.
    Thanks

DennisL--Try putting which ever site is involved (not the Flash site, but the one you are on when you get the message) into your Trusted Sites (assuming you do trust it). Uncheck the box at the bottom "Require Server Verification.... "|Apply.

    Thanks Welshjim
I have been sourcing from Adobe home site. Had previously "ADDED" page URL when IE displayed the message (download comes from adobe.com domain). I removed tick from "Requiring Server Verification ", but problem continues. My current setting for "Trusted sites" is MS default setting, which puts everything at "enable or prompt ". I also went into "Advance" tab and Ticked the following two phrases ...
Enable Install On Demand (Internet Explorer)
    Enable Install On Demand (Other)
Closed IE6, cleaned all system and IE temp, history, and cookies files.
Reloaded, but unfortunately still can not get ActiveX to become active.
Go figure, most folks get in trouble because it is, I can't get things to work because it won't. I think it is a plot. :p  ;)

    Dennis L--
Is this happening when you are at the Adobe page trying to get the update to Flash Player 8.0.24.0?
    http://www.adobe.com/shockwave/download/download.cgi?P1_Prod_Version=ShockwaveFlash
Did you uncheck the box to also download the Yahoo Toolbar? If not, try that.
Or are you at some other site? If so, could you tell us the URL of that site?

You could look in your C:\WINDOWS\Downloaded Program Files folder. Do you have a file Shockwave Flash Object file? If you do, right click on that file|Properties. Does it indicate "Installed "? Does the Version tab indicate it is version 8.0.24.0? If no to either or both, Remove the file from the Downloaded Programs Files folder--perhaps to the Recycle Bin, but do not delete.
Hopefully you can then download the latest Flash Player from http://www.adobe.com/shockwave/download/download.cgi?P1_Prod_Version=ShockwaveFlash
If no luck, and the Shockwave Flash Object file was "Installed ", but just the old version, then Restore it to the Downloaded Programs Files folder and someone will have to come up with another solution.
P.S . Anything other than "Installed" in the Shockwave Flash Object file's properties means it is corrupted.
