I have chosen not to install the Disk Cleanup Wizard addon lets users delete outdated Windows updates on Windows 7 SP1 or Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1 update. I have tested it and if I recall correctly, there was a box next to "Windows Update Cleanup" to tick or untick to do the cleanup or not and it's available after choosing "clean up system files ".

After installing the batch of updates for October, I prepared my system for a fresh Ghost backup image. I ran the Disk Cleanup Wizard and it found a few MB to delete. Next, I choose "clean up system files" as well. Now there was 10,7 GB to delete but under "files to delete ", there was no box to untick if you don't want to do the cleanup of outdated updates. (That it actually is "outdated updates" is an assumption on my part - what else could it be?)

The actual cleanup happened on the next reboot. It took 8 minutes to "configure windows updates" and an additional 8 minutes to "clean up ". Before the cleanup, I had 45 % free space on the 77,6 GB system partition. After the cleanup, 59 %.

Anyhow, if you like me, have chosen not to install the disk cleanup wizard addon from 2013 and you don't want to delete the "outdated updates ", don't run the Disk Cleanup Wizard + "clean up system files "!

I have not tested if it is the same after installing the alternative update KB3192391 (Security Only).
