If this subject is in another area, I apologize I am new at this. My question is I recently installed Kazaa on my computer and I love it but I wanted to put some songs that I have in my CD collection in Kazaa, my problem is I don't know how to get them in the Audio Folder of my shared folder. They always end up in the Other folder. How do I transfer my songs in the audio folder where everyone will be able to gain access to them. Thanks.

You should have a "help" section within Kazaa. Look for uploading, sharing etc. Oh, by the way, Kazaa is notorious for people disguises viruses as music files. Make sure you have a good anti-virus program and its up to date..

    kaaza questions

in the tools >options section you will find various options
it seems that Kaaza seems to have a standard unchangeable
download site default of "My Shared Folder ". I do not think that
    you can change that.
look at tools>find media to share to pick where and what files
    you are willing to share
the Kaaza forums are very usefull
you might want to try the non-spyware ad-ware version of Kaaza called "kaaza lite "
one place that you can download Kaaza lite plus find forums
    is :http://doa2.host.sk/
for more links try : http://free.hostdepartment.com/k/kazaalitetk/
of course hunt around for links
there are various versions and languages of Kaaza lite plus tricks (kids).
there are advantages and disadvantages of the newer and older versions.
the newer versions have a rating system to place you in a preference setting for better download rates.
    lots of usefull information
    have fun !!!!
    :D ;)

If you leave "Auto-Protect enable" it will work in the background. Also keep your virus defs up to date. I keep liveupdate enabled also..

Thank you both for your help. I have gone to the kazaalite site but it always says the server is down. How is this site different from Kazaa?

    kaaza lite english download site

Kaaza lite to begin with has no spyware. ad-ware or troublesome popups which are built into the basic Kaaza program.
there are some other features as well.
it was written by some unknown programmer
to download the latest version in English try

for an older version (there are some advantages)

    fuller list

Are Media Companies Missing the Boat?

    link: (AP) --

Kazaa, the company behind a popular file-swapping Web site, said it will fold because it cannot afford to defend itself against copyright infringement charges brought by the major studios and labels.

The Dutch company maintains it has not violated any copyright laws by enabling customers to copy and share music and movie files by computer. But Kazaa lawyers said Friday that the firm cannot afford to defend the charges.

"Plaintiffs have engaged in Rambo-style litigation," Kazaa said in a court filing Friday, complaining that the studios and labels are using hardball legal tactics to squash it.

The collapse of Kazaa, however, is not expected to slow trading activity on the company's network, one of the most popular file-sharing sites in the world. Kazaa said it has sold the network to another firm that the music and film industry has not sued yet.

The Web site and the software behind it are now owned by a privately held firm called Sharman Networks, based in Vanuatu, an island in the Pacific.

Lawyers for the seven major Hollywood studios and five major record companies and music publishers said Kazaa is playing a corporate "shell game" to dodge responsibility.

They contend that Kazaa's two founders, Niklas Zennstrom and Janus Friis, continue to be involved in the operation of the Web site and made substantial money from the sale.

You can direct Kazaa where to download to as well as what files or folders you want to share.

Because I listen to all types of music I myself don't use their "My Shared Folder" for anything, I chose where I want the files downloaded to, from there I redistribute to the folder I want it in, wether it goes into country music or oldies or rock, etc..

I can't remember off the top of my head exactly how to go about setting the preferences but I will double check when I get home and post it step by step...... unless someone else beats me to it.

    Thanks Schamish for the info.
KevinSaul, do you have kazaalite and kazaa? I haven't had any problems( *****crossing fingers******) yet with kazaa as far as viruses are concerned, but reading the reviews from some people who have kazaa have problems with viruses. I just want to make sure if I make that switch I will be able to get alot of songs. right now i can get anything i like. Songs I can't buy anymore. I would like to put my music in another file so if you get this post and still would like to help me I would appreciate it.

Kazaalite is Kazaa without the spyware. Otherwise everything is the same. It comes from the same source code as kazaa. That's how it came to be. Someone edited the code of kazaa and took out the shopping stuff (something I'm sure they aren't to happy about). Doing a search with kazaalite will return the same results as kazaa because it is kazaa.

lots of viruses and trojans on kaaza

there are dangers in downloading from p2p sevices
make sure that you have a running anti-virus protection with
some type of real time detection with an up to date virus list
there are some terrible mean people who seem to post viruses and trojans on purpose on Kaaza
usually though the anti-virus program will catch them

confidential documents saved in "shared folder "

My 13 year old son tells me - "dad this is unbelievable. Adults are so clueless when it comes to computers. They save documents anywhere without knowing it. Some even save their confidential documents in their "shared folder ". And ..
try searching Kaaza (best specify documents)
for terms such as - document, letter, memo, confidential,
plan, sales, memo , memos, memorandum etc..
some users seeem to have saved multiple of what should be confidential documents) in their shared folder

Your son is probably right but he should also be aware that some of those "adults" may not be as clueless as he thinks. Most of those files you see when you search using those terms are .doc files. Doc files can contain nasty macros that can really mess up your puter when you open them. In my opinion, you should treat them as you would any .exe file. If you don't know where they came from, don't open them. Thought I'd mention this in case he doesn't know this. Warn him and tell him not to mess with them. ;)
