When using netstat in command prompt, there are ports shown on the left side under Local Ports and there are ports shown on the right under Foreign Address.

What's the difference between these ports? And when I close my ports, which ones am I really closing?

And on a side note.. I noticed a connection was made on port 139. Then when I checked a little later, the connection was gone. Did I get hacked?

Take a look Here and see if the article sorts it all out for you.

If not, post back with any remaining unanswered questions.

And if you happen to be running XP, you can do netstat -O to get the PID (process ID) associated with each entry and then use task manager and the processes tab to see which PID belongs to which process on your PC just then.
