I am looking at upgrading my motherboard and CPU on my current system. What is the correct and easy way to set up Windows XP Pro with Service Pack 3 for the new Motherboard and CPU??? I have heard many different ways but not sure which one to do yet that would cause less headache!!!!

    Welcome to WindowsBBS :)

I assume you intend to install your existing hard drive with XP SP3 already installed?

First to simplify matters create a slipstreamed installation CD with SP3 ......

Slipstreaming Windows XP Service Pack 3 and Create Bootable CD

    Uninstall IE7 through Add/Remove Programs - important

Upgrade your hardware and then make a Repair install of XP .....

How to perform a repair installation of Windows XP if Internet Explorer 7 is installed

How to replace the motherboard on a computer that is running Windows Server 2003, Windows XP, or Windows 2000

If you have SATA drives you may need to install the drivers at F6 on the second screen - requires a floppy drive.

If you do not have a floppy drive see .....

Install Windows XP on SATA without a Floppy (F6)

When done install the chipset drivers for the mobo and check Windows Update.
