    HMM OKAY FIRST THING FIRST..

THIS COMPUTER IS LIKE..5 YEARS OLD AND WE HAVE HAD PROLBEMS IN THE PAST BUT NEVER SOMETHING LIKE THIS!

POWER WENT OUT WHILE MY MOTHER WAS DOING A DISK CLEANUP (SHE DOES THIS SO MUCH IT'S RIDICULOUS ACTUALLY)

WELL WE COULDN'T REBOOT THE PC, COULDN'T DO SYSTEM RECOVERY.
THIS MESSAGE COMES UP WHEN IT REACHES 89%

    " ERROR! CANNOT COPY FILE
    H;\\WINDOWS\I386\12520437_CP! "

SO I DECIDED TO DO SOME SEARCHING ONLINE AND JUST ABOUT TRIED EVERYTHING I COULD'VE. EVEN THIS UHM DESTRUCTIVE RECOVERY..OR SOMETHING IN THAT TITLE RANGE.

WELL THAT MESSAGE KEEPS COMING UP NO MATTER WHAT I TRIED TO DO. EVEN CHANGED THE BOOT "THINGY" SO WHEREAS THE COMPUTER WOULD TRY TO REBOOT FROM THE DC/DVD AND THAT DAMNED INSTALLATION CD STILL WON'T COME UP!

EARLIER IN OUR COMPUTER PROLBEMS WE WERE GIVEN 2 SYSTEM RECOVERY DISKS WHICH I HAVE TRIED TO DO AND IT GET'S ABOUT 94% PERCENT BEFORE SAYING SOME FILE IS MISSING!

ALSO I HAVE TRIED USING THE ORGINAL WINDOWS XP INSTALLATION CD THAT CAME THIS CRAPPY DESKTOP AND THAT DOESN'T LOAD UP! SO I TRIED USING MY WINDOWS VISTA INSTALLATION CD (BELONGS TO MY DELL LAPTOP) AND IT WENT ABOUT HALFWAY BEFORE SAYING AGAIN FILES WERE MISSING. NOW THAT IS WHEN I TRIED TO DO PC RECOVERY FROM IT'S MENU.

SO I AM NOW JUST INSTALLING WINDOWS VISTA, HOPEING IT WOULD JUST REWRITE OVER EVERYTHING AND MY MOM CAN STOP WALKING AROUND WITH THE PITIFUL FACE LIKE A FIVE YEAR OLD...(LIKE SHE NEVER BROKE THE COMPUTER!) SO LET'S SEE IF THIS WORKS FOR ME!

IM THINKING ABOUT SWITCHING SOMETHING ON THE INSIDE OF THE COMP, SEE MY MOM DO IT BEFORE. JUST WANT TO TRY EVERYTHING I CAN AT HOME BEFORE I UP AND GO TO SOME EXPENSIVE COMPUTER TECHINICIAN.

IF ANYONE EVER RAN INTO THIS PROLBEM AND PRETTY MUCH FOUND THE SOLUTION W/O HAVING TO CALL THE DAMNED HP PPL (OUR WARRANTY RAN OUT ANYWAY LIKE YEONS AGO) OR WITHOUT HAVING TO SPEND MUCH A FORTUNE ON NEW CDS AND THINGS IN THAT MATTER, IT WOULD BE REALLY EXCELLENT IF YOU CAN IN SPECIFIC DETAIL TELL ME WHAT YOU HAD DID SO THAT I MAY DO THE SAME!

(SWEAR THIS MAKES ME WANTS TO CHANGE MY MAJOR IN COLLEGE...GRAPHICS ARTS JUSS DON'T SEEM WORTH IT WITH ALL OUR COMPUTER PROLBEMS OUT DERE!)

THANKS TO ANYONE WHO IS DECIDING TO HELP ME OUT! BIG HUGS AND KISSES AND ALLA DAT JAZZY.

    Welcome to WindowsBBS;)

Please don't type in all caps. Its considered SHOUTING at us when you do so;)

A couple specs of dust on the cd drive could be causing ALL of the problems you described.

    Hi Not,

    Welcome to windowsbbs.

It sounds like you may have dirty cd disk or just a plain old tired or slower speeded cd/dvdrom. You may have needed to use the old "try try and then try again" method. Sooner or later, gray hair by gray hair, it may have worked.

For now I'm happy to see that you have managed to work around this by getting a vista OS installed, as opposed to xp. Your mom may not be to happy. She's going to have to learn her way around Vista now but this should make a windows 7 transition easier when that time comes.

Good luck and thanks for the update. :D
