    Hi all,

Although I'm posting an enquiry concerning mouse / cursor behaviour, I've posted in this IE forum because I know this isn't a problem with the mouse - it only happends in the 'Favourites' section of IE 8.

Since upgrading to IE8, I've found that when I use the favourites section & scroll through the list to click on something the cursor is extremely difficult to control. It runs perfectly smoothly (i.e. in the proper way) across the toolbars, menus & the pages themselves & behaves itself in Google bookmarks as well as in all other apps. Odd this, but if it's an IE8 fault (or 'feature'?) I can't be the only person to have suffered it & I'm hoping someone will have an answer.

I hope I've explained clearly enough: opening 'favourites' & moving the cursor up or down through the various folders & links should be a smooth action (and always was until I upgraded to IE8 from IE7). Instead, the cursor moves in unpredictable 'jumps' - a bit like using tabs but without predictable gaps between the jumps. The problem occurs all the time, not just on certain web pages or when running certain other apps & has been annoying me since the moment I installed IE 8 about 6 weeks ago.

I know this sounds petty but it is a nuisance, as a medical condition means I have a bit of a tremor (mainly in the hands) & although steadying the mouse with both hands makes it behave better, that's far from ideal. I've tweaked a lot a mouse / cursor behaviour in the past with the 'Accessibility' options & have it just right for what I need EXCEPT(!)when using IE 8's favourites.

    Any ideas, please? Thanks,

    Martin

PS - It shouldn't be relevant, but just to let you know it's an ordinary USB mouse. I've tried another mouse in a different USB port & that made no difference.

    Close IE.
Go Start>All Programs>Accessories>System Tools, and click on Internet Explorer (no add-ons). Same thing?

A really strange problem, but understand the difficulty it is causing you .....

A couple of thoughts if Broni's suggestion re. an add-on causing the problem does not work ....

Export your Favorites - File > Import & Export - Favorites and follow the Wizard through. Close IE.

Delete the Favorites from the Favorites folder - C:\Documents and Settings\Username\Favorites.

Open IE and File and import the Favorites using the Wizard.

    or .....

Uninstall IE 8 - rolls you back to 7 and check that the problem no longer exists. Then reinstall IE 8 from the direct download ....

Beyond that I am bereft of ideas :)

    Update

Thank you both for your quick replies.

Broni - Thank you, I didn't even know that facility existed. However, I've been through the list & disabled everything one at a time, but no difference. It was worth a try though & thanks to you I've learnt something new.

Pete C - I was glad you replied because you'e been helpful to me in the past. I tried your 'export / delete / re-import Favourites' idea but unfortunately no joy. The next thing to try will be doing what you've suggested secondly & rolling back to IE7 then re-installing version 8. It seems a bit drastic though & I'm concerned about losing all the IE8 settings that I've personalised, but you've given me an idea of something else to try first. When I'm over at my dad's next week I'll upgrade his IE to version 8 & see if the same problem occurs there. If it doesn't & all works as it should, then I'll know there's somthing wrong with my particular installation & I will rollback & re-do it as you've suggested. If the same problem exists on dad's with IE8 then I'll return here & see if anyone has posted any other ideas!

I ought to mention that it matters less if I mess about with my dad's IE than with mine as he uses it very rarely & has no personalised IE settings, so it'll be easy to put it back to how it was & what he's used to. He has the same thing as me & his shakes are much worse than mine, so he certainly wouldn't be able to get along with a 'jumping' cursor, so maybe we'll both end up using IE7.

    Thanks again to you both,
    Martin

Keep us posted, Martin. Sound idea checking out on another computer - I do not experience the same issues in IE8 using a straightforward MS USB mouse.

Just a thought do you have the MS Intellipoint Software installed? I do.

Yes, Pete, I do & I find it useful. If it fixed this problem I'd find it brilliant!

Will keep the BBS posted but it may be end of next week before I get to use the other machine. Thanks again,
    Martin

Improper or bad video card drivers can cause scrolling issues.
