    Hello!

I'm new here, and the archive search didn't help me, so please excuse me if these are common problems :

    1) If I save a webpage from internet and try to view it offline, the JPG images do't show anymore, only their placeholders. The GIFs and the other images are OK, but the JPGs are not showing. And they are saved in the "..._files" folder with the other files. Also the cached version of the webpage is OK with all images showing, only the local saved page is with trouble.

    2) After an internet session with alot of poping windows , my IExplorer 5.5 window does not maximize it completely anymore. If I press the maximize icon (or the menu command) the window maximizes its margins to the screen borders (just like when I drag manualy the window margins) but the grey borders of the explorer windows don't disapear ! This hapened to me once more in the past but corected itself the same way it came - in an internet session, without me doing anything special (I guess !?).

    I use Win95 OSR2 & IE 5.5 on a P100Mhz / 32MbRAM HP laptop ( Don't laugh, this is well enough for Word , E-mail, Internet and even some basic Webpage editing :)

Any opinions would be apreciated !
    Thanx.

    1) Might help if you give the URL of a problem page. Try saving this page (works fine for me when I click File Save as...Webpage, complete)

    2. Do you mean that the maximized window appears to be partly off-screen, at the bottom? If so, see this page

Otherwize please explain more what is happening.
or look through the other links at

    One problem solved !

    Hi Alice,

Sorry for the late reply, but I lost any hope to get an answer to my questions, so I didn't check this thread in the last days.

Your reply really helped me, at least for the second problem (the maximize error). Following the link you gave me (pointing to a problem similar to mine) I found that there is an easy way to solve it: I just had to increase the size of the taskbar, hit the maximize icon on IE , reduce the taskbar to the normal size, and everything became normal - the maximized window is now correct.

Regarding the first problem (the JPG error), this is what happens:
    - I enter the web page from the link you gave me (nice ships!)
    - Save the page in "My Documents" : File-Save as...-Web Page, complete.
    - disconnect the modem - I'm offline
    - I go in Explorer and duble-click the "Opsail2K.htm" document (the default name of the web page)
    - the page opens and it shows me only the text, and the placeholders of the images. No pictures! (maybe some "pirates" stolen the ships !;-)
    - if I right-click the placeholder of an image and hit the properties command, the properties window shows me the JPG dimensions (seems like the right ones) but the "size" field displays "Not Available" (for a fraction of a second, when I open this window it is "-1 bytes" then changes to "Not Available ").
    - if I go in Explorer in the "Opsail2K_files" folder and double-click any of the JPGs saved, the Internet Explorer shows me only the placeholder of the image
    - if I open the same images in another viewer - I used ACDSee - they apear OK, so it means they are corectly saved by IE

I use the IE 5.50.4522.1800 Service Pack 1.

I was tempted to install from web the Service Pack 2, but I'm not shure this will solve this error (it wasn't on the list of solved errors by this pack) and I don't want want to load unnecesarily my already "overloaded" P100/32MB system.

Thank you very much Alice for your help, and maybe this new data will gave you or to anybody else some ideas!

What program is opening when you double-click the Opsail2k.htm file? If it isn't IE then try opening Internet Explorer, then click File Open and browse to the Opsail2K.htm file and open it that way. Does that open ok with the images displayed? You did say that IE opens when you double-click a jpg? Just for the heck of it try browsing to the .jpg file from within IE and open it that way...does it display ok? Maybe this will give me or someone else here an idea of what is happening. Anyway I'm glad you got the other problem solved.

    Everything is OK now !

    Hi again

    I think I found it:

I said in my last reply that I double-click the JPG, but in reality I right-click it and chose "Open" from the contextual menu (which opens the IE), because the default action on the JPG files double-click was to open it in ACDSee viewer. So I opened the Windows Explorer and go to the registered files window (View -> Options -> File Types) to restore the original way with the IE open on default on JPGs (whitch I think was modified by the ACDSee install) and than I found something strange: for the JPG files and the JPEG files, the "Content Type (MIME)" field was showing "image/gif ". So I set it to the more obvious value "image/jpg ", hit OK, open again the "Opsail2K.htm" document and, surprise, the ships are there, ready to sail again ! The same with JPG files individualy - I open them in IE and they are displayed OK. I restarted Windows and it's still OK.

So I guess maybe the ACDSee (v3.0) installation corrupted these registry keys, but I'm not sure because I have more graphics applications installed. Anyway the things are now OK (I hope), this is all that matters, and maybe this will also help anybody else with resembling problems.

Thank you again Alice for your help, and please excuse my not so good Eglish.

Great to hear everything is working ok now and those ships are ready to set sail when you open the .htm file. I took those photos from our boat, by the way.
