An im a prediciment which is probably of my own making. Jpeg files arrive via OE as .eml files but with the Internet Explorer icon. They will not open as photos, only text or unrelated blocks of letters much like any other endecoded pix.Have tried creating associations with other photo software...Real, etc but no luck.

Does anyone have any ideas how to correct the situation. I'll be happy to provide more data, but for the time being this is what happens.

    TIA

mrgeraci-- Is this true of all "jpeg files" from all senders? If not, I suspect the individual sending them to you has changed the file type. (You could try sending yourself a jpeg file and see what you receive.)
The fact is that you are receiving .eml files, so must either open them with MSIMN or try to change the file type to jpeg.
    Try opening with MSIMN first.
Hold down Shift and right click on one of those jpeg attachments, click "Open with... ", scroll to MSIMN, highlight, check box at bottom of window "Always use this program to... ", click OK. Any luck? Perhaps the file really is an eml file that has a jpeg attachment in it, and which now can be seen and opened??
"Have tried creating associations with other photo software...Real, etc but no luck. "
jpeg files open in graphics viewers. Default is usually IE, but you could use Irfanview, MSPaint, etc. However, as mentioned, you are receiving eml files which do not open in graphics viewers.

.eml stands for electronic mail, or just plain e-mail.

Outlook express, by default, is set up to prevent you from openting .eml attachments under the presumption that they are viruses.

Open TOOLS | OPTIONS | SECURITY. Remove the check from the box before the item "Do not allow attachments to be saved or opened that could potentially be a virus. "

Thereafter you should be able to view .eml attachments. BUT, never open any attachment from a sender you don't know!
