    Hi all,

I am trying to join a Windows 2003 Server domain from a Windows XP Professional SP2 Client. The join is succesfull, but it creates a new profile on the server, making the precious data and programs invisible to the newly created profile.

To access his/her old data, the user naturally has to login to the local profile, in which case the user is no longer part of the domain.

Is there a tool which can help this situation?, I want to join the domain and at the same time, the existing data and programs to be available to the user.

Can anybody please help ???

    Kind regards to all

    ;)

Simplest solution on a single PC is to use XP's "Files and Settings Transfer Wizard" (Start > Accessories > System tools).
    • Log on as the local user, run the transfer wizard as the "old system" and save the files to a local drive (or a network drive if you are short of space).
    • Log on as the domain user, run the transfer wizard as the "new system ", pointing the wizard at the files created at the previous step. It will then copy all the files (mainly "My Documents" and Outlook files) to the new profile.
    • Test that all the files have transferred by getting the user to log on via the domain user and use the system for a while.
    • When you are happy that everything has transferred you can (and probably should) delete the local user profile.

Simplest solution is the move profile button ...

System / advanced / user profiles.

Login as the new domain user. (if you have already loged in as this user once you can skip this step .. but you must reboot)
Reboot. (you must reboot to unlock a file)
Login as a local admin (not the same user as you are moving.)
System / advanced / user profiles. Chose the old local login you want to migrate, click copy to (the new domain version of that user)
Log off, login as new Domain user .. all settings will be there.
