Java Error: Your Browser is unable to support JAVA

Hey all,
One of my freinds is having this problem.
He had XP home re-installed (not by me) and now when ever he trys yo enter yahoo chat he gets this messag" Your Browser is unable to support JAVA. Please enable Java or cheack your HTML client ".

Now weve had a quick look around his computer and under internet propiteies and the advaced tab there is no "M$ VM "
Isnt that were the Java settings normally are??

Please help, or any ideas would be great to hear.

Actually the link above is for an older version MS VM. The latest version is 500. 3810 and can be found at:
