    What is Java Console?

Every so often I look down and there is an icon called Java Console. It has appeared there several times and does not go away until I log off.

Tonight I did receive a message on one of the sites I was visiting telling me to update Netscape. I am using Netscape 7.1 with Win XP so I didn't know what was going on. It was shortly after that I noticed the icon in the SysTray.

Also, isn't Netscape 7.1 the latest version? Just wanted to make sure I wasn't overlooking something.

    Thanks.

Go into Control Panel, click on Java Plugin, click on Hide Console, uncheck Show Java in System Tray, then click on Apply.

Thanks for that bit of info, but can you also tell me exactly what the Java Applet/Console does and why I even need it?

What causes it to appear periodically?

It appears whenever the Java Virtual Machine is activated by a webpage. It will show you what aspects of it are in use, and may log errors. Right click on the System Tray icon and select Show Console if you want to see what I mean. Nothing is really understandable to the average user, and I do not know enough about Java to tell you anymore.
