This pertains to Java "Critical Updates" end of November 2005.

Started seeing Java version update articles Tuesday 11-29 and Wednesday 11-30-05 around the net (see Arie - Sun Plugs Serious Holes in Java. I currently run version jre-1_5_0_05-windows-i586-p.exe verified by Sun test site and local folder name. Going to Sun download sites, this continues to be the current file offered.
Then tried updating via Java Control Panel, run "Update Now" get following ...
"You Already have the latest Java(TM) Platform on this system ".
Anyone else running into this problem?

Dennis L: The Update 6 of Sun Java is now available on Sun's website at this location Sun Java .

Click on "Verify Installation" button on the right side of the page, then again on the next page and it will verify the version you have, and let you know if it is up to date. If not it will give you a link to d/l the new Update 6 version.

Once installed you can uninstall Update 5.

    Thanks for the update JohnB.
I was suspicious the press was ahead of the fact.
Just wondering if anyone else was having the same problem.
It still amazes me how Sun continues to have one of the most difficult sites to navigate. Lets hope their security fixes are better than their web design. If memory serves me correctly, update _05 was compromised in less than 2 weeks.

I agree with you about the difficulty navigating around Sun's site, very confusing, so I bookmarked the above noted download page some time ago. Saves a lot of hunting through their site.

BTW, I have never had any results (luck) using the Update function from the Java utility in the control panel. : Just keeps telling me my Java is up to date, even when I know it is not. :confused

    Hi guys!

I clicked to verify but it didn't manage to detect my current installation 1_5_0_05.

When I click MANUAL DOWNLOAD 1_5_0_06 is now available (but wasn't yesterday evening when it still offered _05).
