(On my Netbook Windows 7 Premium Home Edition SP1.)

I had version 6 update 13 on my system. I uninstalled it and installed version 7 update 4. When verifying the version, it wouldn't give me the version #. It is listed in the control panel, but will not run on a website that uses Java.

I tried using the RAR tool, and deleted whatever folders I could find on C drive. I ran JV powers tools and Ccleaner.

I noticed that in the add ons the active x was still listed so I disabled it.

Then I tried the Rar tool again, still no success on the next attempt.

    What should I try next?

Either a reinstall right over the top or go to Control Panel and click on Java and see what it says in the General tab, About.

That is the latest version. Active X is usually associated with Adobe Flash and not Sun Java. Enable it and see what happens.

I tried that and java still won't load. I have now used system restore to go back to a time before I updated. Version 6 update 13. It doesn't work either.

Why did you disable Active X in the first place?

I saw that it was an Active X Java plug in jp2iexp.dll in Winpatrol and thought I'd disable it before uninstalling Java.

I have never disabled it. 7.5 just came out. Un disable what you disabled and go HERE and download Sun Java.

Ok I'll give it a try tomorrow. The plug in is enabled since I used system restore.

Download Revo Uninstaller (the one on the left is FREE) and then when you get it downloaded, open it up and anything that you find for Sun Java, uninstall it and use the 4th choice down on the page that opens up. Do all of the registry cleans also. Then shut the program, reboot and go HERE and try downloading it again. If it doesn't download or install, tell us exactly what it says.

Last time I did run JV registry cleaner and ccleaner and I deleted folders in C that I found. Should I uninstall using RAR tool again before running revo uninstaller? What is the fourth option called? I'm not sure where it is. Also where is registry cleaners?

Hi Alicia. Use Revo uninstaller first to uninstall any Java components that are listed. When you uninstall Java, Revo will ask you which mode to use to uninstall the program. Pick the advanced mode which is the 4th option at the bottom of the window. Then click Next to start the uninstall process. When it asks you to remove any leftover registry entries please go ahead and do so. When Java is fully uninstalled reboot the computer.

Then go ahead and run CCleaner and JV registry cleaner to remove any remaining Java entries. Also remove any remaining folders on your harddrive that contain the word Java or Sun.

If you are unsure about where the Java or Sun folders are located then check the following directories:

    C:\Program Files (x86)
    C:\Program Files
    C:\Windows
    C:\Users\All Users
    C:\Users\Your Account\AppData\Local
    C:\Users\Your Account\AppData\LocalLow
    C:\Users\Your Account\AppData\Roaming

When all of those steps are done run the Windows Disk Cleanup Utility and make sure to select all the checkboxes in the program when it asks you which files you want removed. Reboot the computer when you are finished and try reinstalling Java from Bill's link.

Just do the Revo thing. When it opens up to the window to let you uninstall it, the choices are:

    Built - in

    Safe

    Moderate (which is tic by default}

Advamced (this is the one you want)
