    Hi
I had an update for Java 2 Runtime. I now have a Java Web Start Icon on my desk top that when I click on, My firewall comes up saying that it is requesting access to the internet.
When I let it have access I get a Java web start application manager.

I don't believe I need this? I don't have my own web site to manage.
I would like to uninstall it, But I believe I need Java.
Can anyone tell me How I might uninstall the Java web start and still keep The update for Java?
    I have 2 Java's in my add/remove.
Java 2 Runtime Environment SE v1.4.2_03
Java 2 Runtime Environment SE v1.4.2_06 (Updated one)
Don't understand why the updated one didn't overwrite the older version, and there is no Java web start in add/remove.

    Thanks
    Geri

Geri...You should uninstall the older version of Sun Java before installing the latest version. I your case I would uninstall both of them and reinstall 06.

When the install is finished just delete the Java Icon on the desktop. You can also delete the one in your start menu>programs. They are only shortcuts.

Then go to your control panel and open Java>Update Tab and uncheck the auto update check box (doesn't work anyhow).

    Hello Geri,

I would like to uninstall it, But I believe I need Java

Follow Bill's uninstall instructionns and don't reinstall Java, see if you actually do want it. Don't need it.

Do a search on Java so you get some idea of what it is and what it's used for.

    Regards - Charles

    Thanks,
Charlesvar, I believe I have a photo program that uses Java. So I'll keep it for now.
    Thanks
