I wasn't sure whether to post this in the Spyware forum or here but, since this isn't really a security issue (AFAIK), it's going here. :)

I recently installed the Java 1.5 Runtime Environment for Windows (from sun.com, I think) which included ActiveX apps.

In Spybot S&D's (Anti-Spyware app) list of installed ActiveX applications, there are two CLSIDs listed that refer to the same filename, MD5 hash, and CRC. I *think* the Java I got is legit but the "Creation Date" for the DLL is 12/6/2068. (???)

I attached images from Spybot S&D's display below.

Can others here verify this JRE 1.5 as being legit?

Why is the date 2068? Could it be because this is a beta? (Is v1.5 beta?)

I'm just a tinkerer vith no familiarity with Java except for occasional use via my web browser and, perhaps, I shouldn't have DL'd this version of the JRE. :)

Should I remove the v1.5 and reinstall the v1.4.2?

I think I'd remove that version but then get the latest release of just the runtime environment. I think you have a version that includes tools for development and it doesn't sound like you need that.

http://java.com/en/download/manual.jsp and click on the windows download.
