I was going to upgrade from Windows Vista Home Premium to Windows 7 Home Premium tonight when I got a warning from the installer telling me that Itunes is not compatible with the version I am installing.

I visited the Windows 7 Compatiblity Center and it says that both Itunes 32bit and 64bit should be compatible. If they are compatible, why is the installer prompting that it is not?

I read a few posts from some Apple forums and this sounds fairly common.

Have you heard of this? Do you have a recommendation since I don't want to stop using Itunes?

    Thanks

The latest version of iTunes is 9.0.2.25 and it is compatible with Windows 7, both 32 and 64 bit. Is that the version of you have?

I went in and clicked on Check for Updates in Itunes. It says I have the most up to date version, 9.0.2 . I'm not sure about the .25 part though. Where would I go to find that?

I apologize, I am not terribly computer savvy.

I can think of two courses of action you might take.

    1. Do a Google search for the full version name -- 9.0.2.25 -- and see what you find.

    2. Go ahead and download the 9.0.2 version you found and when it's installed you can open it, click on Help > About iTunes, and see what it says there. It's most likely going to be the right one. The downside to this idea is that the file is big and takes a long time to download and install.

You're pretty likely to get the right version either way.

No need to apologize. We're all learning here and a lot of us feel we're in over our heads at times.

I just realized you already have version 9.0.2. Go ahead and do the test described in #2 above and see what version it says you have.

    I do have version 9.0.2.25 .

During the install it recommended that I deauthorize my computer and uninstall Itunes. What do you recommend? Should I just install Windows 7 without doing anything to Itunes and hope it all comes out in the wash?

I find it hard to believe that Apple wouldn't update Itunes to work with 7 since so many customers will be running it. That being said maybe the problem was with the beta and the warning from the installer is out of date perhaps?

When I was doing a Google search last night for the latest version of iTunes, the site I wound up downloading it from did say it was compatible with Win 7.

I suspect you're good to go, but maybe somebody else will get in on this that has experience with Win 7. I haven't made the switch to it yet myself.

Or you could go ahead a do it and when it turns out successfully you could then be the BBS's top expert on the question! :)
