    Hello pishbloom2,

Right-click a blank area in the notification area > Properties.

Under the Notification area heading, click Customize. Find the Safely Remove Hardware icon > select Always hide in the Behavior column next to it > OK and Apply.

    Regards - Charles

    Hi pishbloom,

What you did and what I wrote instructions for is the same thing, the Notification (clock) area is part of the Taskbar.

There's nothing wrong with your usb, so trouble shooting is irrelevant. If it comes back, not much you can do except a registry hack - this is one of XP's annoyances.

    Regards - Charles

sorry charles, i misread your instructions but i guess it was done correctly the way you advised. im just getting over the stomach flu thats been going around and now i have a head cold so im not feeling too swift right now. if it happens again ill just ignore it as im not about to touch the registry. i think we can mark this annoyance as solved. i just wish there was a magic button i could push to delete this cold. :) thanks again.

    Hi pishbloom,

No problem - hope you get better :)

Didn't want to leave the impression for others that you and I are writing about two different things when they research this problem.

    Regards - Charles
