    Hello,

I just built a computer and i seem to have a problem with it.

I have windows Xp and when i click turn off the computer instead actually turning off it restarts.

I dont know what seems to be causing the problem.

    Thanks.

Any errors or alerts on the restart?

Any notible event in the event viewer (part of Administrator tools via control panel)?

Does checkdisk run prior to the restart?

If not try number # 76 on Kelly's site:
Power Off or Reboot After Shutdown
    http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_tweaks.htm

    Also from Kelly's site:
    Shutdown Tracker
The Shutdown Event Tracker provides a simple and standard mechanism you can use to consistently document the reasons for shutting down or restarting your computer. The information provided is recorded in the system log in Event Viewer.
    >Go to Start/Run/Regedit and navigate to:
    >HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Reliability
    >Create a new DWORD value or modify the existing value named "ShutdownReasonUI" and set it to "1" to enable shutdown event tracking. When enabled an additional drop-down option box will be displayed with various planned and unplanned shutdown reasons. Restart Windows for the change to take effect.
Explanation from Microsoft: (which is a bit more in depth. Please make special note of the advisement to back up the registry prior to this edit!)

    --Additional Notes--:
Root cause can be traced back to either an improper shutdown booboo or Power Management.

I see from you sig. that you're overclocking by a hefty 700! What happens if you return everything to *normal* mode?

...And also your memory overclocking. :(

Sorry I'm not a fan of overclocking. There are just too many stability issues it can directly and indirectly affect.

This is happening to another machine.

I looked in event viewer and nothing wrong.
    No errors.
    No checkdisk running on restart.

Try the other suggestions I previously posted. Be sure to click on the last link I included in that thread. It is a long list of known causes and cures.
