I am a teacher in a small school with several technology handicap instructors. They are always asking me to come over and show them "how to do something" that I have shown them several times before.

Several years ago I remember using a tool that came with either Windows NT, 2000, or 98 that allowed you to record your desktop and the movements of your mouse. You could also add audio from a microphone.

What you would do is start the recording, and use the computer normally while adding audio commentary as you went along giving the finer details. When you were done you could save the file to a floppy and hand it to your "problem client." I don’t believe they needed the software on their computer. The file would "play" in its own window like a movie that the user could pause and rewind.

For the life of me I can’t remember what the blasted application was called.

I’m sure that WinCAM is a fine program. The application that I’m asking about was bundled with windows and was free.

Movie Maker is the only free app from Microsoft that might maybe do the trick.

Did you happen to have Lotus SmartSuite on your computer? That had a program called ScreenCam, that will do what you want.

I don’t believe we had Lotus. I want to say that it was a bare software machine. As I recall most of the tutorials were how to connect to your ISP through your dial up <YUCKY>
