Hi Guys, this place was recommended to help me resolve a problem i'm having.

My Laptop (HP pavilion DV9000) speakers have started making a random popping noise ever since i changed the hard drive and installed fresh copy of Vista Home Premium - other than this they function perfectly.

All drivers are up to date, no issues are showing on the laptop.
It makes the sound randomly but can also be heard just after the laptop makes a sound it's self. E.g. when you plug in a memory stick.

Any ideas what problem might be?

You used the HP Windows installation method?

It was the same before you updated the drivers?

Apart from drivers it will also have, or need, audio manager software. For example, my audio is Realtek and it has a Realtek Audio Manager (software). So you should find that both are involved, not just the drivers.

I always update the chipset drivers before updating the audio drivers. I would also update the drivers before getting Windows Service Packs.

If you need to start uninstalling and reinstalling drivers and software, there should be listings for them in Control Panel -> Programs and Features.

In Control Panel -> Sounds, you can turn off Window's Sounds in the drop-down (No Sounds). Try testing with Windows sounds turned off.

I might associate "pops" with the media player or the file. So test using a different media player and watch if the pop happens in exactly the same place during playback.

    Matt

    Hi Matt,

Cheers for the advice, i will check to see if the management software is installed tomorrow and if not remove the drivers and install in the order you recommend.

No it was a fresh install using new vista disc. Was no problems prior to the fresh install and hard drive change.

To be frank, I don't think the system will work correctly unless you use HP's OS installation method. My experience is that the original HP drivers are only supplied using their installation system and they are happy to supply you the installation disks at a price.
