When I downloaded magicfolder software from www.pc-magic.com and after installtion as required tried booting in previous good condition config.(pressed F8) immediately I had error Isass.exe system error with message " while updating password this return message is to confirm that current value of P.W is not correct, this message last for few seconds and again booting starts and again same message above appears and keeps on cycling rebooting, finally i have to switch off power . Now I cant access my desktop nor can work on my p.c , also tried safe mode by pressing f8 but not able to, what should I do ? is there any other solution to access my hard disc so as I can try removing magicfolder .exe file and reboot .
Any body ever had such problem as winxp is suppose to be program which doent crash easily ,Note : I have password as administrator .
Also after installing magicfolder program I opened it with correct assigned P.W and message appeared that program installed correctly pl reboot to start would you like to restart etc. if doesn't reboot press F8 and boot in last good config.

    Help please.

This happened to me too, please help, I'll lose a lot of data here!

I'm in the same situation, I'm so **** angry with Windows XP right about now...

I'm using a Toshiba laptop, and the only way to restore the Windows is to do a full format of the entire hard drive with the emergency restore CDs... I'm receiving the isass.exe error as well, after having done a Last known Working Configuration...

NOTHING so far has seemed to work in being able to boot the machine, at the very least I NEED to back up the data on my machine before reformatting. PLEASE any suggestions, I need help on this right away!

    Thanks for any response...

There HAS to be a way to hack through this or SOMETHING, If I lose my data on this, I SWEAR I will never use Windows XP ever again... (I know, it's not like you're Microsoft, but I'm ANGRY...)

Sorry about my ranting, I've fixed all sorts of Windows problems before and I'm truly stumped on this one.

    Thanks for the quick response...

Thank you, I have read the message, I am trying to contact Microsoft now for their "hotfix" on this issue, don't know if I'm going to have to PAY for this support or not...

If anyone knows where I can download this hotfix, let me know, as the only way to get it from the microsoft site is to contact them personally.

I also checked the Toshiba site, it said that the problem could be caused by a wrong system date setting after the recovery, and that the only thing to do is do a full system recovery- format, etc...

At the moment I'm trying to install Windows XP Pro over my Windows XP Home OEM Install to try to hopefully access the hard disk... I want to at least save my data which represents months of hard work.

Thanks again, I swear I did a search for the isass.exe on the Microsoft site and came up with only 5 articles and didn't see the one you referred me to.

Well, I'll post again after all is done to help guide others who will inevitably fall into this very irritating trap...

To others, I recommend not using the "Last known Working Configuration ", it could very well be your last configuration!

To this effect, I recommend using traditional backup methods such as disk imaging, etc., and not relying on Windows XP recovery methods...

OK, enough ranting, back to work... ;-)

    Thanks.

You probably cannot get the hotfix without working with a tech support person. They will have to first make sure that your problem fits the fix. The times I've dealt with similar, they would place the hotfix on a reserved download page after deciding it was what I needed and send me a link to download it.

If the problem were purely M$, the call would be free. Since there is a 3rd party involved, it may or may not. The tech support folks will be able to tell you.

    Everything's OK Now, Here's what I did...

Well, problem solved, but not without installing windows again...

I have lots of space on my laptop, so I installed Windows XP Pro into a different folder than the original Windows directory. Everything installed OK, and I can access all of my previous user and document folders... Whew! I have now backed up all of my documents successfully.

Well, at least I haven't lost my work, I'm considering just keeping the XP Pro on the machine, as I was able to download any remaining drivers from the Toshiba site. That's better than what I can say about an old IBM I had, which had no OEM drivers, you had to have the recovery CD to install things like the keyboard drivers, etc...

Thanks again for the responses, and at least I know now what caused the problem.
