Please follow this Google search - Select 1st choice on list

Now Go to the bottom of the page and see the last phrase....

" Other browsers than the Internet Explorer are not compatible with ActiveX, but there is a possibility in Netscape to activate ActiveX by means of a special plug-in. "

Ramona, myself and fellow "Netscape watchers" were concerned about a "ax" application / extenstion which had some "Active X" implications introduced with N7.1. We were advised ... nothing to worry about...
    Is this still true?

Netscape7. has the npmozax.dll plugin, which allows it to use certain applications like inline McAfee, which requires ActiveX to be used. This is one reason why McAfee appears more often than you would care. If you look at some links, you are goingc to lose everything in sight, with ActiveX aka Exploder.
    http://www.halcyon.com/mclain/ActiveX/Exploder/FAQ.htm

This article tells you, with a great deal negative bias that ActiveX is more than potentially dangerous.
My feelings are that I should not freak out because there is a potential danger with ActiveX. But, I am not seeking any applications or Webpages which use it.
For someone who was purposely open attachment which contained virus, ActiveX is harmless.
By the way, I was fully prepared when I opened the attachment, sending the files into the Quarantine folder of my AV program.
You can always delete the above mentioned file.

    Thanks for the comments Westside.

Following Arie's suggestion "How to surf the Internet more safely with Internet Explorer ", minimizes risk when I'm required to use IE. Seems redundant to "open the same can of worms" when using Netscape / npmozax.dll plugin.

    Hi Dennis, et al,

There is an ongoing Mozilla ActiveX project, and you can read about it here:

Mozilla ActiveX Project, Part of the Mozilla project by Adam Lock

I don't believe, however, that anyone will hold our hand over a flame to make us use ActiveX. As Dennis L pointed out, Arie's excellent safe surfing suggestions for IE can also be put to use to reduce risks in surfing with that browser. There is also a small program to do virtually the same thing for IE, called:
    Enough is Enough, IE Lockdown.

    Ramona :D
