Recently updated the wife / kids old w95 computer to w98 SE. This old computer traveled the ages from Netscape 3xx through Netscape 7.0 preview. With a fresh formated drive, Mozilla 1.6 was loaded and installed... along with IE 6.0 (for kids, long story, don't get me started). After a day or two of tweaking, the computer was given back to the tribe and everyone was happy. This past weekend my PS started to go south, so dropped off my computer at local shop for warranty repair. I'm back on the old w98 with Moz 1.6. Have wife set up with Quick launch / open mail & browser, which loads both views on open. I close / end her open mail view and just have the browser window(s) open. While posting a reply to another thread... to my surprise... "The Mail here, the Mail hear, ooouuh" compliments of a Homer (The Simpsons) wave file travels over the speakers (wife giggles every time she hears it). Wow, when did Mozilla go automail notify with NO email view open... and believe you me, I check, double checked and checked again. This has been a requested feature since the 3x days. Did I miss the flashing neon lights and the marching band when this was announced?? Or has the good luck fairy of the future taken residence in this computer? If this is NOT a new feature, could Quick Launch be retaining / holding a "mail notify" value since the browser mail view was opened and then closed?

    Dennis L,

Been that way for awhile now....
Once you open mail, check for mail once and have set to check every x minutes, you can close the mail program and as long as the browser remains open - you get notification.

    Dennis,

Don't know for sure, but it's been awhile.
You might want to do a Bug search for "biff" and "notify" see what turns up. Last I recall there was alot of concern about how it handled "junk" mail and "biff" notification.

Don't recall what was the final outcome.
