My friend just bought a pc from off tv somewhere and he had me come over to check it out. it came preloaded with xp and it takes honestly 5 minutes to load up. hes got 512 sdram, and its an xp 2400 cpu. i went into bios and checked all the settings in there and everything was ok. I checked the stuff turning on at startup and unchecked all that wasnt necessary. Still takes 5 minutes. anyone know what the deal could possibly be?

When that happens, it's almost always a hardware driver problem (usually video driver). Unplug all peripherals (printer-scanner-USB items if any). Boot to Safe Mode and check in Device Manager for any blots and if found, delete the entire category. Reboot to Safe Mode again and see how long it takes. Then boot normally and pay heed of any hardware detection that takes place. If asked for drivers, either supply them if you have such or decline and you can do that later.

If that doesn't help, post back.
