I could really do with some (free if poss) server disk imaging software. We regularly re-install windows etc on our lab-server and would find it much quicker if we had an image of the drive.

Norton Ghost won't work. There are others but they're all pretty expensive.

Driveimage XML on a Bart PE or ubcd4Win bootdisk would I think work for any Windows OS, but I have not personally tried it with 2K server. (You would need access to an XP or 2K3 CD to be able to build the bootdisk).

Have you consider virtualisation as an alternative? Both Microsoft's Virtual PC and VMWare's Virtual Server are available free. The latter with easy options to add paid for support.

Copying and rolling back virtual instances is far easier than re-ghosting a whole system. All you need is a system with plenty of RAM (more the better) and hard disk space (each image needs at least 2Gb of free space).

Also if you need to test a number of different Microsoft Server versions, I'd recommend you look at Microsoft's MSDN membership. It can be an excellent way of obtain different OS version for testing.

driveimage isnt compatible with win2k server:

"DriveImage XML runs under Windows XP Home, XP Professional and Windows Server 2003 only. The program will backup, image and restore drives formatted with FAT 12, 16, 32 and NTFS. "

I know it won’t run inside 2K Server, but I can see no reason why it won’t work on it from a bootdisk.

And what about Reggie's suggestion? Much better option for a lab setup IMHO.
