    Is there a 'show desktop' command in WXP...and if so, how do I enable it?

    (This question arises because I'm installing a program which tells me to use the 'show desktop' command but darned if I can find it)

    Is it referring to the "Show Desktop" icon usually found on the Quick Launch section of the Task Bar maybe?

    Miz....I don't think so. Its referring to a command, not an icon which I take to mean that there's something I have to click to enable.

    I've explored the program itself for this command and its not there so I'm assuming it must be somewhere in IE or WXP.

    The only real "command ", in the sense that you could type it in the Run box and execute it, would be:

    "C:\Documents and Settings\<username>\Start Menu\QuickLaunch\Show Desktop.scf" (with quotes).

    The "Show Desktop.scf" file can be copied to the desktop (or wherever you like) and executed from there.

    The easiest thing to do, of course, is to simply click on it in the QuickLaunch bar.

    As a matter of possible interest; If you don't have "Show Desktop" on your Quick Launch bar for any reason, you can roll your own using the following script:

    [Shell]
    Command=2
    IconFile=explorer.exe,3
    [Taskbar]
    Command=ToggleDesktop

    Save it as Show Desktop.scf (or whatever you wish as long as the extension stays as .scf

    Then depending on where you created it, you can drag/drop or copy/paste it on your Quick Launch bar.

    Regards

    doubleu, at what point in the install does this program instruct you to use the "Show Desktop" command? Does it give you any reason for wanting you to do so?

    Well, I've found the 'show desktop' command, and its in the program itself, and the command is really labelled 'hide', not 'show desktop' as the instructions claim. 'Show desktop' is just another way of saying 'hide', right? Duhhhhhhhh!

    Sorry to have put you to so much trouble. This is a very useful site and I regret clogging it up with false goose-chases.

    Probably translated from another language, or the writer was not a native English speaker. Sometimes these things can be amusing, when they are not frustrating.

    Glad you found it.
