It turns out that keyboard customizations in Word 2010 do NOT apply to Outlook 2010. In other words, you can customize control-t to mean "delete this word" in Word 2010 but it will not apply when writing email in Outlook 2010.

Does anyone know of a hotkey program that will allow me to use control-t to delete a word (or make other key customizations) in Outlook 2010?

    Thanks.

Isn't it easier to hit the DELETE Key to delete a word? Or are you wanting to auto highlight the word and then delete it?

Steve from dkline's previous thread it appears to be a long term habit which isn't easy to break.

Yeah, sorry, I've been using the following keys really since the days of Wordstar 30 years ago -- control-g to delete character, control-t to delete word, pagedown to go to the end of a line in a document, and end to go to the beginning of the line in a document.

Of course with time I could learn to work differently, but 30 years of doing this as a journalist and prtofessional author has laid down a lot of neural imprinting in my brain.

Office 2010 will allow me to use most of these key customizations (I can't find a "delete character" option) but for some reason they don't apply in Outlook 2010.

So is there some 3rd party hotkeys program that would?

To be honest DK (and I think you've half convinced yourself of this) it would probably be a lot easier to conform to well defined short-cuts than stick with one particular set of commands that weren't universally adopted then and bend modern software to your neural pathways.

Bite the bullet and get rid of your amended short-cuts and get used to the new ones, it is more than office that use them.

Just to close out this discussion, I found the program "AutoHotkeys" which allows me to do most of what I want with key commands. For a few other things, I'm slowly retraining my brain.

    Thanks.
