The question of whether ME uses a boot.ini file came up in the XP board in connection with dual booting 98/ME with XP.

The question is does ME use a boot.ini by itself as a stand alone OS?

    Hi Charles!

My WinME computer is not in working order right now (an old OmniBook) but I seem to remember that WinME has a boot.ini file. The old DOS/Windows files autoexec.bat and config.sys are there but only as "place holders" since some programs expect them to be there but the OS itself doesn´t use them. I also seem to remember a system.ini file in the windows folder.

Hope I´m not wrong on this but if I am, someone else will tell me/us!

Someone correct me if I am wrong here.

I think that boot.ini is only present when an NT based OS is on a system. NT/2000/XP use the Boot.ini file to determine the os options to display at startup. I believe that it is part of their 'off the shelf' multi-boot support.

I haven't used ME for any length of time so I could be way out in right field here....but I think that with ME it would be difficult to multi-boot a system without the use of a third part boot manager. So I wouldn't expect to find boot.ini on a standalone ME system.

    Cheers,

    ICE
