Cold start of computer at present displays a picture, date and time finally requires Password to be entered. Can these steps be missed? and if so, what procedure to be carried out. Bobby.

You didn't give us near enough information. Much depends on the computer, the rest the OS. I don't recall ever seeing the Date and Time. And without know what picture, who knows if that is the motherboard/BIOS tossing it up or Windows. Depending on your BIOS settings, it could be motherboard asking for a password, or Windows, or both.

And remember, Google is your friend.

Bill, picture is a Lake/Mountains and date/time is positioned bottom/left of screen. I would say it is Win 10. Included after clicking picture shows a circle with a photograph of myself, this was part of update from Win 7 to Win 10. Motherboard - Pegatron Benica. I had no need to enter password until Win 10 installed, that is 41 years.

Hi Bobby, Click on Start button > scroll down the Menu to Windows System > click to expand WS and scroll to > Run. (Press Windows Key + R key) In the Run box that opens type > netplwiz > OK. The User Account Menu appears and UNcheck the box - (Users must enter a user name and password to use this computer). OK and follow instructions to close out. Restart your comp for the change to take effect.;).
Right click clear space on Desktop > Themes > Theme settings > lower right Screen Saver > click on SS and choose what you want to do. Close out.

retiredlearner, thanks for detailed instructions, appreciated. All appears to be as required. For personal reasons, I never liked or wanted to use Screen savers, but years ago they were certainly needed to prevent monitor screen (tubes) from "burn in ". Bobby.

Hi Bobby, We've moved a long way from screen burn these days. Flat screens (LCD/LED's) don't have the same problem as CRT's. In W10 you will find the settings in Power Options enable various units to be turned off in an idle state. Saves power and screen worries. My screen goes to sleep (10 mins idle) and comp sleeps after 30 minutes. Movement of mouse reactivates everything.;):)
