    Two questions, actually:
    1. Is it ok to leave a Gateway laptop on, plugged into electricity, sitting on top of a desk, all day?
    2. When I set power options, I get that the Power Scheme of Portable/Laptop is incompatible with my revisions below, and I don't know how to set everything up so I won't get that message. So my question is: What are your recommendations for these settings, please?

Yes, but do ensure that the cooling inlets/outlets at the back and base of the case are not obstructed by anything e.g papers.
I am guessing that you have changed the power settings and the computer is not happy with them?

Settings I use on my laptop are shown in the attached screenshots. My laptop has a Max battery setting in addition to Portable/Laptop settings.
