My son will be coming home from college for winter break. I want to get him an upgraded hard drive (probably WD Scorpion Black 320GB), for his Dell Precision M4300 laptop, and install it during his break. The problem is that I only have a slow dial-up connection. I have been unable to locate a source for a CD to upgrade his Vista Ultimate to Service Pack 2. Is a CD available? If so, how do I go about getting one? He has the Vista DVD, along with CDs for all his other Dell drivers, etc, from Dell, though they may need to be upgraded, also. Any recommendations would be appreciated.

I suggest you get your son to download it at college and burn the .iso to CD/DVD - they surely have broadband?

AFAIK MS are not offering a CD - I can find no reference on their site..

Do you have a link for a combined Service Pack 1 & 2 or will he have to burn two separate CDs? A recommended link for any download would be appreciated. I'll have him do this after finals and before he flies home.

Are these all inclusive for all types of Vista, or would he be better off downloading ones that are only for Vista Ultimate?

    Yes
There are no version specific Service Packs - 'one for all and all for one' :)

The only way of getting a 'version specific' update is through Windows Update which you have indicated is a non-starter on dial up. Through WU only those items required by the host OS are downloaded.
