my "lifetime" license for Malwarebytes is no longer being honored (they told me I had activated it on too many computers), so now the only thing on my computer is Windows Defender.

How essential is it for a computer to have TWO security programs, running side by side? Its not as if this laptop goes to lots of sites to download screensavers, or any other site that is traditionally a haven for malware. My browsers are constantly updated.

I'm not talking about having a program run an occasional scan---but two programs that literally run whenever the computer is turned on.

You shouldn't run two at the same time.

On the other hand, I manually run the free version of Malwarebytes once every few weeks.

I run MS's AV (Defender) in W10 and use MBM once a week likewise. Neil.

Virus Bulletin's recent tests on Windows Defender/MS Security Essentials shows it to have a 100% effectiveness rating, so I guess its not a bad choice. Free of course is always nice.

OK I'll just stick with that, and then use MWB (free version) as an occasional scanner.
