    Hi all (please help)

I've been having a nightmare since the start of this year,
I have a Dell dimensions 9200 ,xp, geforce 7900gs, 2 gig ram, raid 500gig hd
    duel core processors, pc

I with 2 days left on my warranty I started getting the blue screens of death, first was "page_fault_in_Non paged area "

    then IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL

I couldn't reboot in safe mode or get into recover console or reinstall windows as the blue screen would come up with the same IRQL error over and over

so the pc went back to dell and then reinstalled the os, but within a day or so again the same sort of thing errors again this time bad system config errors

So back it went again to dell

a week later my pc arrives back and they changes the motherboard and the memory

So i set about the huge task of getting pc back to how it was, with updates, drivers, software resetting it all up, which i just about done, and was playing a game cryiss demo for a few hours tonight and the pc shuts down and gives me another blue screen!! arhhh this time back to the IRQ_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL, had the pc back a week but only last day or two i've played any games on it

the pc started up ok had a pop up saying: "one of the files containing the system registry data had to be removed by the use of a log or alternate copy. the recovery was successful

I now thinking still got the same problem even after os been reinstalled twice and motherboard and memory changed

and may have contact dell again and lose the pc yet again and have start all over again which will be the third time

If anyone knows what this could be please help if its hardware then can try get dell to change it, as said my warranty had 2 days left when first had this problem and now its expired but if its still a problem they have to sort it i guess

Hi and welcome to the BBS,

When I was reading the start of your information, the motherboard and RAM have been replaced, so I started wondering what remained from your old system. The drives would be the main ones (apart from the CPU and add-in cards). The file iaStor.sys mentioned in the dump is Intel "storage driver ".
I don't have the experience to read the dump much deeper.

I suggest you go to Dell downloads, update your Intel chipset drivers, SATA controller and RAID controller drivers.

Run Error Checking (chkdsk) on your drive(s).

Without checking for your particular model, I think Dell run Windows on RAID 0 disks. If so in your case, it may be best to e-mail Dell Support and tell them the story. Using RAID 0, if there is an error on one drive, the system can stop working.

You can get the diagnostics for the HDDs. That will check that they are physically OK.

Check or ask at the Dell Community Forums. It appears to be a Dell "thing ".

Check more dumps. See if iastor.sys or other drive related files are identified.

    Matt

The error message you mention has many possible causes, the most common of which is driver-related. Troubleshooting it is difficult for someone who has direct access to the machine; but, I will post all the notes I have accumulated in my troubleshooting notes over time:

    Most common causes:
    1. Drivers incompatible with Windows
    2. Digitally unsigned drivers
    3. Bad Memory
4: Seems to happen most often with gamers, indicating possible hardware/driver problems. Probably happens more often with gamers only because games seem to push the hardware to its limit.

    >> Re: IRQL NOT LESS OR EQUAL message restarts my Windows 2000 server
I emailed Microsoft, I have copied their reply below. I think it is the BT ADSL driver (that is unsigned) that is causing my problem. I have contacted BT and I'm waiting for a response. I hope this is of some use to you all......

In your case you have indicated that you get the stop error "IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL ".

This indicates that you are using a driver that is incompatible with Windows XP.

Most likely as you suggest this is for your BT ADSL modem.

First contact the manufacturer for Windows XP digitally signed drivers for this device and check all other as follows:-

This step-by-step article describes how you can use the Windows XP Signature
Verification tool (Sigverif.exe) to find unsigned drivers and verify device
drivers in Windows XP. This information can be helpful for troubleshooting
system instability, error messages, boot problems, and so on.

    Verify Unsigned Device Drivers
    ------------------------------

    1. Click Start, click Run, type "sigverif" (without the quotation marks), and
    then click OK.

    2. Click Advanced.

    3. Click Look for other files that are not digitally signed.

    4. In the Look in this folder box, type "x:\Windows\system32\drivers" (without the quotation marks), where x is the letter of the drive where Windows XP is installed.

    5. On the Logging tab, make sure the Save the file signature verification
results to a log file check box is selected, and then click OK.

    6. Click Start.

NOTE: The log file is named Sigverif.txt, and it is saved in the Windows
folder. Third-party drivers that are unsigned are displayed as "Not signed. "
Use the drivers in this list as your troubleshooting starting point.

    Disable Unsigned Device Drivers
    -------------------------------

A common problem is power management features, and Microsoft requires power management support to certify drivers. Many third-party unsigned drivers lack this support, resulting in power management problems (such as problems going into or coming out of hibernation and standby).

After you find unsigned drivers, you can disable them by using any of the
    following methods:

    - Disable the device in Device Manager (you may have to click Show hidden
devices on the View menu, and then disable the device under the Non-Plug and Play Drivers branch).

    - Uninstall the software that installed the third-party driver by using the
Add/Remove Programs tool in Control Panel.

    - Rename the driver in the Winnt\System32\Drivers folder.

    Troubleshooting
    ---------------

If you have multiple unsigned drivers, disable them one at a time. If disabling a driver resolves the problem, contact the manufacturer of the third-party system driver for a updated version that is designed to run with Windows XP.

Hopefully this will be of help.
