Irfanview causes black screen after use

Hello everyone!

I'm not sure if I am posting in the correct category, my apologies if I'm in the wrong place!

I have had the (highly recommended) Irfanview program for quite some time. Although I don't use it very often (due to my lack of understanding on how to use it to it's full potential) I have used it occasionally to view a "slide show" of some of my pictures.

However, for some reason, everytime after having used the Irfanview program, after I close it (and if I'm not using my computer for anything) the screen will eventually go black. All I have to do is move the mouse and it will come back on, gives me the impression of a screensaver function (that I have turned off/set to none).

Is there some setting on Irfanview that could be causing this? Or is it some other setting on my computer that I have set incorrectly?

Vicki--Please also tell us whether it is the whole screen or only the Irfanview portion that goes black.
But I agree with PeteC that it sounds like a normal shutdown after inactivity. Is this any different than the timing for the black screen when you leave the PC inactive other than the times you use Irfanview. You should also check Control Panel|Power Options.

 

Settings are the same

I have checked the settings as suggested. (My OS is W98) Screensaver is set to "none" and the power scheme is set to "home/office" with the system standby set to "never" and turn off monitor also set to "never ".

The only time my (whole) screen goes black is after having used Irfanview, which is why I questioned if there might be something in the program that would be causing this.

I can, of course do a reboot and this clears the problem. But don't really want to do that after every Irfanview usage.
