I have a Zune player that had a broken HDD. I purchased a HDD that apparently was previously used in an Ipod. My problem is 1. Zune gets to the point of installing software and a message is displayed "not enough room for files ", 2. I then removed the drive, installed it in an external enclosure and attempted to format it, Windows Management can see the drive and says that it needs to be initialized, 3. Initialization fails.
Can anyone tell me how I can get this HDD to be initialized? I have had a tech look at it and he says that the drive is "locked by Apple license ", all I want to do is wipe and format the drive, so that the Zune software can be loaded. Thanks for any help!

    Welcome to WindowsBBS :)

I have moved your thread to Hardware with title edit.

If that is the case - "locked by Apple license" you may be out of luck as the 'lock' is most likely in the firmware of the drive.

However you could try a low level format of the drive using the drive manufacturer's software......

    Disk Diagnostic Software ....

    ExcelStore

    Hitachi/IBM

    Samsung

    Seagate, Maxtor, Quantum

    Toshiba

Thanks, I have tried both of those methods, I can only get as far as an attempt to load the Zune software, and it comes up with "not enough space to load software ". So I removed the HDD and put it in the external enclosure, but cannot initialize the HDD, maybe the manufacturer's software will allow a low level format. Me tech guy is returning the HDD to me, as he was not able to unlock. It would seem to me that I need to wipe and format, but have not yet found the software to do it.
