I just installed an ethernet card on my toshiba laptop running windows 98 second edition. The instructions that come with my modem tell me I have to open 'winipcfg' from run in the start menu and then choose my ethernet card from the pulldown list. The only problem is that my card is not on the pulldown list.

How can I add my ethernet card to this list?

    Thanks very much,

    SM

    Hi systematic monk

If you look in the Device Manager and expand
Network Adapters, is the Ethernet card listed?
If so, are there any ! or ? beside it.

Sounds like the Ethernet driver is missing or corrupt.
Double click on the card listing in the Device Manager.
That should open a window with three tabs.
Click the Driver tab. Click "Update Driver ". Click Next.
Click Next to "Search for a better driver that the one your
    computer is using now. "
If your Ethernet driver is on a floppy, Insert the floppy and
put a check beside "Floppy disk drives" and click Next.
If it locates the driver click Next and Finish.
