I am working on an XP Prof system that shows being connected local and internet with a dsl connection, but I can't open a browser window. I went to cmd and tried the ipconfig /release and got the following error:
"the operation failed as no adapter is in the state permissible for this operation "
Anyone know what this means? Thanks

Does this mean IE or FF won't open at all? If so - it'd have nothing to do with releasing the connection.

Give more info on the History of the issue and more details on what the issue is;)

Thanks for the reply, Steve. I kept fooling with the settings and finally found that I should change the dns and ip settings, so I just checked the box to obtain the settings auto and it finally started working again. I am not sure I understand why though
