Hi Fauxqui. You will need to update your drivers for your network device. What make and model of computer do you have?

Also please enter your System Details. It helps us in answering your questions.

Note: A common error is to forget to show your System Details in your profile:

Make sure to do the above when entering your System Details, thanks.

It's an UP Pro 3500. When I ran the driver check it said the latest drivers are installed I'm working on my Kindle now since my desktop won't connect. Thanks.

What is the history behind the problem? Did something change or did this show up out of the clear blue?

Have you rebooted your router and or modem?

Download your network driver from here, HP Pro 3500 Microtower PC Drivers.

Choose the Windows 8 Operating System but you will need to open Device Manager to figure out which network driver you need.

The device manager says it's a Virtual Box Host-Only Ethernet Adapter and that's not listed on the HP site. Am I barking up the wrong tree? Is there just a way to reset the ip address?

You didn't save your System Specs when you did them.

If you are talking about your System Specs. go to User CP and fill out the info and then at the bottom of the page click on SAVE.

Thanks, I added as much as I could since I'm using my wife's MAC and can't connect with my computer.
What's the next step to restoring my ip config?

Yes, but I get the following:
No operation can be performed on Local Area Connection 3 while it has its media disconnected.
An error occurred while releasing interface Local Area Connection : An address has not yet been associated with the network endpoint

You mean an HP Pro 3500? Wired or wireless? Bad cable/port or if wireless, bad card?

It's wired and directly connected to my Comcast router. Actually changed the ethernet cable. Also switched ports. still no go.

Media disconnected means that there is a problem between your comp and the Router/Modem. This could be the cable or the connectors or an internal fault in the circuit board in either unit.
    As MrBill suggested
2 cards are shown in the specs for HP PRO 3500 as WiFi (Optional) PCIe x1 and mini card. Neil.

Media disconnected is what it means--no cable and am glad you installed a new one..

Drop to DOS--open up a cmd box

type in "ipconfig /release" without " and hit enter. then ipconfig /renew and hit enter.

Then type "ping 127.0.0.1" without the " and hit enter. Make sure your software stack is installed

Next, right click on the network icons and go to the adapter and right click on it make sure it is enabled.

Is your spouses MAC also getting an IP address from whatever source you use? (i.e. router)

try putting in a static IP address in the wired adapter you are using. Right click on the adapter, left click on properties, left click on internet protocol version 4. Uncheck get IP address automatically and check in manual. Put in an IP address that is part of the subnet your router is using. For example, most routers, like cisco/linksys use the 192.168.1.0 subnet starting at about 192.168.1.100-254 area.. Pick one and type it in manually.. After doing that go back to the dos box and ping that ip address to make sure your network interface adapter is working i.e. ping 192.168.1.150. If you can ping the 127.0.0.1 and then the new ip address, you should be working. If not look at your router/switch or however you connect

I'd like to point out that virtual box is for running another operating system on your machine by virtualization (www.virtualbox.org) I use it on three machines I have. It does create it's own network/adapter

Please open Device Manager, expand the Network adapters category and post a screenshot of your network adapters here in your next reply.
