    Hi all,
one of my laptops has disappeared from the network, so I did some checking and it turns out he has a totally differed IP address.
all my ip addresses are 192.168.2.x
    his ip address is 192.168.169.2
So my question is: how do you change that?
the router is set to assign from 192.168.2.2 to 192.168.2.100. nowhere does it say 169 in the address.

    Anyone?
    Thanks
    Sven

Is the laptop on wireless ? It could be that its connecting to some other network.

There are chances for assigning a Static IP address to that computer.

You can check that by going to Start->Run->ncpa.cpl->right click on Wireless Network Connection->Select Properties->Click on Internet Protocol Version 4

Check which option is selected, by default it should be selected as "Obtain IP address Automatically "

If in case, it got selected as "Use the following IP address ", then someone would have assigned that particular IP address to this computer.

    rsinfo,
He is wireless and he is on the same network, but was logging on as a guest with a different password. would that do it? I have now disabled Guest access. I can now see his computer again.
    Thanks for your help

Logging with any user account should not change the IP address as its picked up even before you log on.

Could it be defined by a policy ? I don't know.

Yes, that would do it. This is what's in my router about guest setup:

In my router I can set "Enable Routing Between Zones ", that would let you access his PC, even while he's using the guest zone.

I've never tried guest access though.
